Pseudo HDR Tutorial

Posted by .

If your camera can’t shoot in bracketed exposures fear not! (and if it can, what are you doing here? Head on over to my HDR Tutorial) there is a still a way to create beautiful and unique HDR images using the magical RAW file. RAW files contain a lot more information than it’s older compressed JPEG sibling (if you want to get technical, RAWs contain 12-14 bits of information where as JPEGS only contain 8 bits) and it’s this extra information that will let us create a HDR from a single RAW.

I create HDR’s from single RAW’s quite often, in fact sometimes I think it’s absolutely necessary! For example if your shooting somewhere busy… say in a bustling city, then there’s no way you’re going to be able to capture a multiple exposure HDR without ghosting the hell out it. It’s also handy to shoot in RAW if you don’t have a tripod handy (as many tourist sites don’t allow tripods, the swines!).

To find out whether or not you’re camera can shoot in RAW visit my List of  Cameras capable of shooting RAW page now.
